Principals Message

Dear Sirius College, as we are halfway through the term, it gives me joy to look back on the achievements and activities that we have taken part in. Here are some highlights from this term and several things to look forward to at Sirius College.

The International Festival of Language and Culture (IFLC)

Sunday the 14th of May was a very special day for the Sirius College family. First and foremost, we celebrated mother’s day and I hope that you all had a fantastic mother’s day. This special day was decorated even more by the IFLC at the Melbourne Convention and Exhibition Centre. There were many spectacular performances, demonstrated by more than 70 students from 14 different countries from all over the world. IFLC student performers from countries such as Kazakhstan, Germany, India, and so much more spent a week together in Melbourne and became great friends. The IFLC is testament to the vision of Sirius College, a world where education is valued greatly, and where friendships and dialogue are not bounded by stereotypes, prejudice and racism. These young performers from all corners of the globe have become our peace ambassadors; advocating harmony and unity for a world that we would like our children to live in. Organising such an event required a lot of dedication and sacrifices. I would like to take this opportunity to thank all staff, students and parents who were actively involved in this spectacular event. I would like to extend my deepest gratitude to our wonderful Music teacher, Mrs Anna, our Drama teacher, Ms Madeleine, and our primary choir and drama students. Your months of hard work and dedication truly paid off with the amazing performances demonstrated by our students. Seeing our students on stage at the Melbourne Convention and Exhibition Centre performing in front of 2,800 spectators was truly something to be proud of.

Swimming

The grades 1 and 2s visited Epping Leisure Centre for swimming lessons this term for an intensive 2 day a week program for 4 weeks. The content of the program included water safety and swimming techniques. The students enjoyed the swimming activities and looked forward to the lessons. I would also like to express my appreciation towards all of the teachers and parents who supported these important classes.

Language Week

LOTE week was once again a highlight event for Sirius College. We celebrated the variety of second language subjects that we have on offer through Arabic, French, and Turkish song performances, outdoor games and activities. Thank you to all of our students, parents and staff members who helped in making this week awesome.

NAPLAN

Our students have recently taken part in NAPLAN examinations. The purpose of the NAPLAN is to assess all Australian students’ literacy and numeracy skills in grades 3,5,7,9. Results will be sent with reports to all families, so please take some time to review these with your family.

Entrance Exams

The first round of Entrance Exams will be held on Saturday, 3rd June. If you or anybody you know is interested in enrolling a child to Sirius College, please apply for an entrance exam online or at the main secretaries’ office. Places are filling up fast and we cannot guarantee a spot for any late applicants. Please note that all children, even siblings of current students, will need to sit these exams. I wish all applicants the best of luck.
